Hello dear readers:
I am back in D.C. and had slated a post for today but am abandoning it because it feels discordant to be writing about anything except Israel-Palestine.
And yet, I have little to say that can help the situation.
There is just too much horror here.
Israeli hostages held by Hamas, including children, pregnant people and the elderly. In Gaza—where half the population is children—without food, electricity, or water and nowhere to escape the bombs.
I wish I had a solution to this madness, but I don't.
All I can do is bear witness to the sheer terror of what it means to be Jewish in a world that will never stop wanting to eradicate you and your people—and will always blame you for other people's diabolical wish that you didn't exist.
All I can do is bear witness to the fear and hopelessness Muslims feel as they reckon once again with how little value is put on Muslim lives, whether it's denying them the basic sustenance of life or dropping bombs on them.
I don't think there are many good places to get information about what is happening, but I think
is a good source, and today's post captures the absolute horror while resisting the urge to oversimplify and pretend there is an easy solution here.
Welcome back to DC Kirsten!!! You say it well. What’s in my heart. You say it. Without even knowing me, you know me🙏
I feel the same. The hatred, death and scary future is heavy. Strange to feel the dichotomy of wanting to treat others with kindness while being wary of the indifference to human life that walks among us. History informs how this story can go and what actions take us there. Yet those evil actions by many seem to be inevitable.
