I think it's important to hold the tension that things can be very hard and that there is also joy.
It's tempting to live on one side or the other of the ledger—and capitalist culture pushes us to see things in black and white—but it's crucial to resist the 'all or nothing' temptation and embrace the both/and of life.
We need moments of brightness to sustain us.
This isn't about toxic positivity or forced gratitude. It's about developing the emotional range to hold complexity—to acknowledge that the world can feel overwhelming while simultaneously noticing the small mercies that anchor us. We can grieve what's broken and celebrate what's beautiful. We can work toward change and find sustenance in what's already good.
