You referenced your home town, sunlight, the feeling and not the hamster wheel of the brain. I realize that finding “the place” of your being is so important. When I was young it was riding motorcycles, now it’s trying to keep up with m y 5 year old grandson - yes - getting out of the mental noise is so important.

I’ve spent much of the last few weeks of our European vacation reading “The Enneagram” and I’m pretty sure I’m in the “mind” segment, probably a 6. I’ve probably overly suppressed my gut for years, so these are good questions for me. Spending time in a beautiful part of the Mediterranean (Tossa de Mar in Catalunya) has helped.

I always thought “listen to your heart and/or your gut” was always a bit risky--they’re only as good as the guide we give them. For some, that means homophobia, misogyny, slavery, genocide, racism....while facts don’t add context, the gut alone is missing a few things too imo....

I don’t think that’s what listen to your gut or follow your hear mean. I think the things you listed are created by the mind—after all they are all ideologies or based on ideologies. People rarely (if ever in my experience) say they are opposed to gay people bc their heart tells them so. They say their religion tells them so. Slavery was justified w religion and white supremacy not the heart or gut.

Also, I probably should’ve been more clear in the post that I’m talking about making decisions. I’m not talking about forming opinions about issues. We need to rely on our mind for a lot of things, but when making decisions about what kind of career to pursue or who to date our body will often be the best guide and/or early warning system.

you are not an old lady! I'm sorry to hear about your loss -- i have been through that with both cats and dogs and was totally gutted each time. It's the price of love I suppose. Right now I have paused billing until Sept 4 when I'm going to relaunch the substack at which point you will be able to subscribe!
